Born to the Thornweavers of the Wildwood, a lineage that communed with the sleeping anger of roots and the patient venom of brambles, Vespertine's craft was meant to be one of boundaries and sacred pain — hedges that protect by drawing blood. But she heard a deeper song: not in the living thorn, but in the silence that follows the break. She listened to the resonance in fallen branches, the hum in sun-bleached bones, the whispered psalms of dead things. This Bone-Song was considered a perversion, a craft of endings rather than cycles. When she was caught weaving charms from crow skulls and singing the dirges of wilted roses to animate the Lodge's stone gargoyles, the Thornweavers cast her out for "consorting with echoes." The Dark Masons, understanding that devotion often wears the face of heresy, offered her a chapel of silence and chains. Now her prayers are not requests, but resonant commands to what has been left behind.
