Children of the Night: Level 3 — The Blossomed
Blood was never simple. Before the Spanish came, before the empire, before any of it — blood was the covenant that held the world together. You gave it willingly. The gods gave it back as rain, as corn, as the continued turning of the sun. Every priest knew this. Tlahui was a priest.
What Children of the Night offered her was not so different, at first. Blood as the centre of everything. Blood as power and obligation. She understood the theology. She rose to rank three on it.
What she could not accept was the direction of the debt.
The faction feeds without returning anything. Takes without covenant. She had watched this long enough to see what it produces: older and older predators with less and less reason to exist. She did not protect the family in the tenement out of sentiment. She protected them because she recognised the blood — a lineage she had known in the temple centuries before. A line that had survived conquest, plague, the erasure of everything they were. She was not going to let Children of the Night end it over a quota.
They called it contamination. She calls it memory.
