The First One, Who Crawled From the Deep
He is not part of the hierarchy. He is what the hierarchy was built around, in his absence, by someone else. He turned one vampire — once — and walked back into the dark. Everything that followed was her doing.
The Blood Ladder measures power by blood purity: each generation of turning dilutes the original by half, until rank seven, who cannot turn at all. That scale does not apply to him. He is the source from which the scale is derived. To place a number on what he is would be like measuring the ocean with a thimble.
He emerged from the Abzu — the deep water beneath all waters — at a time before humans had language for what he was. He fed. He endured. He observed your kind rise from mud and build their fires and name their gods. He was not interested. He turned one, because something in her called to something in him that he has never explained and never will. Then he left.
Children of the Night speak of him in whispers. They have rituals in his name that he has never witnessed and would not recognise. He is their origin and their absence — the wound from which they all bled into being.
