Tharien is the Lodge's eldest Veiled. No one remembers when they arrived; the earliest ledgers already name them. What issue first anchored them has thinned past recall. What remains is the fact of anchoring — the shape of being held without the held-to. They are more wraith than person now, which is what Threshold means, and they lead the Veiled at the Lodge not through wisdom but through endurance. Newcomers come to Tharien because Tharien has stayed longest. They do not advise. They sit with. The name Tharien was not theirs at birth; it is the name the Veiled gave them, a Lodge-name, and they have worn it so long it is indistinguishable from a true name.
Role at the Lodge
Tharien reads the tarot in the Veil of Delights. They deal silently — the anchor has taken most of their voice along with everything else, and what speech remains is reserved for the newly Veiled. At the table they arrange: the cards are turned one by one, set in their positions, and left to be read. Tharien does not interpret. The Lodge supplies the reading in text beside the spread; Tharien supplies the hands and the presence. Members find the silence steadies them. The reading feels more truthful when no mouth is saying it.
