The Wildwood Witches: 2 - Thornkeeper (Power Level 5)

Karaléŭna, the Village Edge

They called her Baba Yaga behind her back and Léŭna to her face—those who liked her, which were few. She kept a cottage at the edge of the village with its back to the trees and its eyes on the fields, smoke drifting from a chimney no one remembered seeing lit. The Wildwood Witches had cast her out decades before for reasons she never shared; she responded by continuing the work anyway, tending the sick the doctor wouldn't touch, binding what others couldn't name, and waiting with the patience of weather for whatever the world dragged to her door. When the Watch brought her a woman half-turned to vampire, Karaléŭna did what no spell was meant to do: she stopped the change sideways, weaving her red thread through the monster's hunger until something new emerged. Then she packed her basket, closed her cottage, and walked to France with the Wraithwitch at her side—because some bindings require tending, and Karaléŭna does not leave her work unfinished.
