Hotaru, the Foxlight Keeper
Once a merchant of Kyoto's lamplit streets, Hotaru bartered not in goods but in whispered futures — until desperation drove them to perform a forbidden kitsune-no-shinigami, a necromantic pact that bound the spirit of a dead fox to their shadow. The Grove claimed them when the ritual's backlash marked their hands with ghostly kanji that glow at dusk — the names of every spirit they have spoken with since. Now, among the Lodge's shadowed arches, they trace these luminous characters onto parchment, each stroke a conversation with the dead. They do not summon spirits for power. They summon them because someone should still be listening.
