The Veil: 5 - Shaper (Power Level 2)

Henrik Vass worked thirty-one years as a clerk in a shipping office in Rotterdam. He wrote a letter to his sister in 1934, sealed it, and did not post it. He meant to. He carried it in his coat pocket for six weeks, re-reading it at lunch, amending nothing, deciding each evening that tomorrow he would drop it at the post office on the way home. On a Tuesday in February he died — quietly, at his desk, pen still in hand. The letter was found on his person and read by strangers. It was never delivered; his sister had moved. At the Lodge, Henrik keeps a postal desk in a small alcove off the foyer. No letters are sent from it. Members who wish to may leave correspondence in the box. Henrik sorts it each evening with great seriousness. At dusk he carries it to the threshold and stands with it. The letters are returned to the box by morning. Henrik never asks why. The ritual is the point.
