Haru, the Forever-Performing
Haru was a master of Noh theater who wore masks both on stage and off, until the Hollow Court taught him that his whole life had been rehearsal for their infinitely more dangerous performance. He became exquisite at glamour, at being merchant-lord and peasant-girl and warrior-monk in turn, living each identity with the full commitment of method acting. But in a moment of genuine passion with a mortal lover, he whispered his true name aloud, and the Court stripped him of his rank and cast him out for the ultimate actor's sin: breaking character at the climax.
