The Veil: 5 - Shaper (Power Level 3)
Calliope Venn was the second-billed singer at a music hall off the Strand when she collapsed mid-routine on a Thursday in October 1904 and was dead before the curtain reached the boards. The song she was performing — a ballad called What the Roses Knew — was her own composition, three verses and a final reprise. She died in the middle of the final reprise. The last two lines were never sung. She has been trying to reach them for a hundred and twenty-one years. At the Lodge she haunts the Karaoke Room — the Songbook — where members sing for each other. Calliope sings along, sometimes. She gets as far as the penultimate line of any song and then her voice slips the key. Members who try to finish the lines on her behalf find that their own voice fails in the same place. It is a courtesy the Songbook extends to her.
