The Veil: 4 - Drifter (Power Level 3)
Berhane was born in the Gondar highlands in the late years of the Zemene Mesafint — the Era of the Princes — and killed in exile far from her home when a local feud turned on her family. Her body was left where it fell and never returned to her family's earth. In her tradition this is not a small thing; the dead belong in the ground of their people, and the rites that accompany them make the ground itself remember. Berhane's ground does not remember her. At the Lodge she tends a small walled garden — stones, soil, a single olive cutting that was itself brought from a country it did not die in — and performs the rites she was denied, privately, for other Veiled whose bodies were also left where they fell. She is calm and slow-moving and carries her own small stone with her everywhere.
