Baelrhael, once called the Ink-Shadow of Isfahan, moved through the smoke-choked bazaars not as a common thief, but as a pilferer of ledgers and contracts—those fragile scrolls where truth and falsehood perform their eternal dance. He defied an Archfiend's command to falsify a celestial account, choosing instead to protect the hidden lineage of a factory-owner's daughter, thus damning the knowledge he was sworn to serve. Cast into the industrial fog for this mercy, he was found by The Dark Masons at the foundation stone of a half-built bridge, his Persian numerals etched not in clay, but in soot and rainwater upon the cobbles, a new scripture awaiting its vault.
